Performance by Zahava

Zahava comes from a professional dance background, training since the age of two with many masters at the Juilliard School, Tisch School of the Arts, Alvin Ailey School, Sarah Lawrence College and performing with such legends as Katherine Dunham, Urban Bush Women, Liz Lerman and the Joffrey Ballet. Her extensive training in West African, ballet, modern dance, Middle Eastern dance, Sufi Dancemeditation, and yoga has given her a sense of the infinite movement vocabulary of the body. She has also learned how differently each culture defines dance and its relationship to creating community, healing, connecting with the soul, finding lovers, rites of passage, and preparing for birth.

Short Presentation: A Taste of Tantra Theater (40-minutes)

Most of us have an analytical understanding of our story, meaning that we could tell someone our story.  However, in the process of using the expressive arts to craft our stories, our paradigm is irrevocably altered. Old suffering is observed and released. Connection is realized. A new consciousness emerges that allows for humorous self-reflection. Ultimately, we experience a greater acceptance of self and a freedom of being. As a community we will be able to witness and share our sories!

Special appearance/performance: Swami Maha Lingam-Ji by Michael McClure! Michael uses comedy and magic to procure a tantric master with one of the worlds most talented penisis!

What is Sacred Sex and Why Is It So Scary?

Article by Paula Tursi, Reflections Yoga founder and presenter at 2010′s Friday night’s Women And Power symposium panel

What is Sacred Sex and why is it so scary?

Listen, the fact is I was brought up a catholic girl. I even taught religion in a catholic school for 4 years! OMG I can hardly believe it. Sex was not discussed! Luckily for me sex was fun, but people who spoke about it openly were weird and perverted. They were overly sexual and not very polite. That was how I saw it.  Do it for sure but please keep it to yourself because it makes me uncomfortable!

In fact intimacy makes many of us uncomfortable.  Looking into the eyes of a stranger can bring deep panic into the hearts of many. I know this first hand as I ask many people to do it and often find it just isn’t possible. We all have our limits or boundaries around intimacy. For me, looking in to someone’s eyes is not a problem but perhaps hearing about his or her sex life… not so comfortable. For others, hugging can feel very strange, as touch with emotion can be very intense. We all have our “no ways”! Even partner yoga can freak people out. This is life and it is good to know our own and others’ limits. I’d like to share with you my journey into the world of sacred sex (SS) because it was my “no way” at one point.

When Reflections first opened its doors we were… let’s just say, BROKE! Through a strange confluence of events the people who hosted the SS round-up found us and asked if they could rent our space for the weekend. My mind said ”weirdoes”, while my pocket said “Sure, we’d love to have to have you! “.

Now sex and sexuality have always been a very healthy part of my life, but not something I ever would discuss in groups…

What the Heck is a Puja, Anyway?

What should you expect, and what the heck is a Puja anyway?

by Round-Up founder Reid Mihalko

A puja is basically any ritual gathering of devotion. Pujas exist in many cultures, Hindi cultures being the main ones that will come up if you Google “puja.”

Pujas can take many shapes and forms and can include music, food, meditation, dance, etc.

In the American Tantra community, a Puja is… To be humorous here (I can’t resist)… A puja could be described as a ritualized kind of sacred “speed-dating” where the focus is on seeing the divine in one another through various exercises and participatory games! Often you will get to meet many people in one event, hence the “speed-dating” aspect.

And, it’s NOT about dating (though you will meet lots of like-minded people, so who knows!).

;)

American-style, Tantric pujas can take many, many forms and the exercises are endless in variety, so no two pujas are ever the same!

Saturday night’s Triple Goddess Puja will consists of several group and solo exercises lead by our esteemed Goddesses. It will be non-sexual but sensual, meaning that no sex will be allowed, but that exploring your sensuality is. Things like feeding fruit to another and having it fed to you, or dancing for others to witness your radiance (if you’re a yes to doing these things because you can always opt-out and say no), these are things you can expect.

Eye-gazing with your partner or with others is also something very common at Tantric pujas, so expect that!

Again, everyone attending can opt-in or opt-out of any and all exercises and games, and we will be encouraging people to honor themselves and their intuition as we celebrate together and explore seeing the divinity in ourselves and our peers.

And you can leave the puja at anytime; however, you must show up on time to the event. No late arrivals!
For the shy at heart, this will be a safe, encouraging space for you to challenge yourself and invite yourself to explore your boldness. For couples, this is a GREAT event to attend together. It makes for an unforgettable date night, too!
Some exercises will be focusing on one’s self, and others will be designed where you can engage and explore with your partner and/or other men and women at the event.

Again, this is NOT an orgy and is a safe place for single men and women as well as couples and friends. Wear comfortable clothes and get as dressed up as you would like, and please tell your friends!!!

Namasté! (Which is Sanskrit for “I see and honor the divine within you.”)
Reid

Ps. Bring your open mind and open heart along with some comfortable clothes to Reflections Yoga Saturday the 25th so you can let your hair down, move your body, and let your spirit shine!
